Vulnerable Children

RTLB SERVICE AND TE WAKA TAMARIKI INFORMATION

Te Waka Tamariki ( formerly Hamilton Children's Team)
Te Waka Tamariki is a community led approach. Anyone who works with tamariki and their whanau can take part. They may be nurses, teachers, youth workers, counsellors, social workers, and anyone- else who works with tamariki.

A referral can be made to Te Waka Tamariki after which a Whanau Coordinator is appointed. Then the whanau is contacted to identify what supports they need. A Whanau Coordinator will work with whanau to collect all the information about the tamariki and the whanau from other agencies and services.

The people from these agencies and services, with whanau agreement, are then invited to become part of the team that work alongside whanau to plan to meet the needs of the tamariki.

RTLB SUPPORT
RTLB can be part of a Te Waka Tamariki team, where that child is already receiving RTLB service. Our role will be to support the Whanau Coordinator, collaborate with the team, contribute to the plan for that child, and continue our work of supporting the school to meet the education needs of the child.
The Te Waka Tamariki team may determine that RTLB support is needed for a child. In that case the school the child is attending will submit a request for support to the RTLB service indicating that this child is on the Te Waka Tamariki team. As we do not wish RTLB to be contacted directly, if an Agency contacts your school about a child who is or is not currently on an RTLB roll and wants RTLB involvement please direct them to contact:
