Special Assessment Conditions (SAC)

Special Assessment Conditions (SAC) provide extra help for approved students when they are being assessed for their NCEA so that barriers to achievement can be removed and they then have a fair opportunity to achieve credits. The support is used for internal standards and external (exams) standards.

Examples of SAC are use of a writer or computer, rest breaks, Braille or enlarged papers, or reader.

If a person is providing support with reading or writing, they may not guide the student or explain the assessment.

Only students approved by NZQA can use SAC for assessment for NCEA.

Applications are made by schools on the behalf of candidates. Entitlement for SAC is required for both internal and external NCEA assessments.

The following link will take you the NCEA link for Special Assessment Conditions.  Here you will find important information for parents and caregivers.

NCEA Guide: Mobile App

To help parents and employers better understand NCEA, NZQA has developed an app designed for mobile devices - phones and tablets.

Called NCEA Guide, the app is for parents, whanau and employers and provides quick and easy access to key information about NCEA.

NCEA Guide includes key content about the structure of NCEA, how the qualification is used after studying, how credits work, and how endorsements are earned.  Users can also choose to view the content in English or Te Reo.

Importantly, parents and whanau can also get information about how they can support family members studying towards gaining their secondary school qualification.

The NCEA Guide App is free to download - get it now from:
